The Plamen Petkov Forever by the Sea fund

This fund is in memory of Plamen Petkov; our beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, boyfriend, friend and colleague - who sadly lost his life on the 26th May 2012 saving a child from the sea on the South coast.

Although tragic, we are touched by the fact that Plamen's heroic act has been so widely and internationally praised. We would like to direct the support of those who have been moved by Plamen's bravery to the RNLI in their efforts to make Britain's beaches safer.

In these days of selfishness of the financial world and wars fuelled by hate, Plamen Petkov has restored my faith in the kindness shown by one human being for another. May he rest in peace and his name and selfless act be remembered forever.

From Plamen's Family:

We are all incredibly sad to have lost such a special person from our lives but we are also immensely proud that Plamen was able to save the life of a young child.

His display of concern for others was typical of the man we all knew and the way he lived his life. Plamen always made time to help others, and as a family we have all been touched by his kindness and generosity which he displayed each day.

We are grateful for the messages of support from everyone Plamen came into contact with both in and out of work - he leaves a huge gap in our lives and will be missed by us all.

We would like to thank his friend and the woman for the huge effort they made to try to save Plamen's life and to people for the kind comments made about Plamen and his part in returning the child safely to the shore.

In these extremely difficult days, we want to use this unfortunate opportunity to stress our concern with the dangerous waters like those at West Wittering around the UK coast and are keen to call for additional positive safety measures to be put in place, such as stationed lifeguards, and to not just rely on signage in order to prevent future tragedies of a similar nature occurring again.

We are looking at how we may support the local community in this area who share this concern in the hope that these changes might be an appropriate way of honouring Plamen's name and courageous act.

Indeed a very brave man who put others before himself and paid the ultimate sacrafice. To his family be sure we will honour his memory through this site and I'm sure the girl's family will never forget him.

Hi, We are trying to get in touch with Plamen's family regarding an award for his bravery, please call me 02084812033.

A real man doesn't ignore the cries of a child, and a hero does the right thing regardless of the danger because it's the right thing to do. You are both, and I wish I'd known you. You are a credit to humanity!!! Rest in peace.

A very, very brave and unselfish man. If only more of us could be like him the world would be a better place x

The RNLI are fantastic and their lifeguards are second to none. This man is a hero and a credit to his family and both our countries

We love you and miss you,
Family and friends.

A very brave man, who must be sadly missed by his family.

We know West Wittering beach well and have enjoyed many beautiful days there, but we also know how treacherous it can be. It is tragic that someone lost their life there trying to save a child. A very brave and selfless act and one which demonstrates the best that mankind can offer. Our heartfelt sympathy goes to his family

RIP Mate, You are dearly missed.
Alan, Julian & all the boys at VBS.

Plamen you are a real hero and inspiration to us all to show such immense courage and selflessness. Thank you for showing such tremendous humanity.

To a very brave man.

So sad to read of your loss. Well done for setting up the fund. Our thoughts and gratitude are with you.

I've been very moved by the bravery of Plamen Petkov and his family. Please accept my contribution with all my admiration and sympathy.

From Mrs Myint and Family,

In memories of OUR HERO!

I've just read on the Croydon Guardian's website about Plamen's courageous act - he was obviously a loving and very brave and remarkable man, and came from a loving and courageous family. My sincere condolences to you all.

An example to us all.

Dear Plamen - in our thoughts and our hearts evermore.

Plamen's bravery and selflessness must never be forgotten.

I do hope the RNLI and his family can put some of the money raised in his honour, toward a plaque in West Wittering marking his heroic act.

It will inspire many to think of what they could do to help others in peril or need.

What a wonderful young man. You have saved a young life and through the RNLI will help save many more. x

our thoughts are with his dear moter. An angle in heaven. susan and family

A small amount for such a gift given.

A courageous man and a tragic loss.

Brave man.

Whatever I write will not be enough, but if only there were more people like you in the world it would be a better place

Such a brave, brave man. I think of you and your family. Judith

such a Courageous guy, so sad

Condolences to his family and friends. Selfless is an RNLI value to which we all aspire - Plamen achieved it

There is no greater thing than to give one's life to save the life of another. In a world full of selfishness, this demonstrates that the human race still has hope....

Having spent many happy days at West Wittering this is a small something to commemorate someone who was prepared to do the right thing.

A real hero.

From a Mother: The RNLI are fantastic and their lifeguards are second to none. This man is a hero and a credit to his family and both our countries

As a man with two young sons, Plamen's act of bravery touched me deeply and I felt the least I could do is make a donation in his memory.
My thoughts are with his family.

we give thanks to your selfless heroism.

Thank you.

Such inherent courage and humanity is humbling and can only be admired. We owe Plamen our utmost respect and can only try to live up to the sacrifice he was prepared to make for a fellow human being.

Such bravery & self-sacrifice deserves to be acknowledged. God Bless.

A small gift for a huge sacrifice. So sorry for your loss. A very brave man. I hope this money might help others at risk in the future.

In memory of a very brave man.

We are making this donation in honour of Plamen's incredible and selfless act.

AMAZING FRIEND, with a lovely heart and beautiful soul.
I have this feeling there's one more star up in the sky tonight. And even though it's far away, its brightness and warmth still reach us here to make the night a little less dark x x
